How Much Does a Used Dirt Bike Cost in NZ?

Prices vary a lot by size, brand, age and condition — here's a realistic sense of what to budget for, and what actually moves the number.

A rough price range

Most of the used dirt bikes and quads we sell are priced from around $4,500 to $10,000, depending on make, age, hours and condition. Smaller kids' bikes typically sit at the lower end, while newer full-size motocross and enduro bikes from the last few years sit towards the top, and near-new or low-hour bikes can go beyond that.

What actually moves the price

  • Age and hours. A low-hour, well-serviced bike from an older model year can be worth more than a hard-ridden newer one.
  • Brand and model demand. Popular models like the Yamaha YZ250F, KTM 250 SX-F and Honda CRF450R tend to hold value well because there's always buyer demand.
  • Condition and service history. A documented service history and no crash damage pushes value up; unknown history or visible wear pulls it down.
  • Modifications. Some aftermarket parts (exhaust, suspension work) can add value to the right buyer; others (cheap plastics, non-standard parts) can actually hurt resale.

Why "cheap" listings can cost more in the end

A private listing priced well under market usually means something — worn-out top end, no service history, or problems the seller doesn't want to pay to fix. Buying workshop-checked stock costs a bit more up front but removes a lot of that risk, because the bike's already been gone over before it's listed.

Spreading the cost

If the upfront number is the sticking point rather than the bike itself, dirt bike finance is available through our partner lenders, subject to their lending criteria, and you can estimate weekly repayments and apply online. Trading in your current bike can also bring the price down — see Sell Us Your Bike for a no-obligation sale value.
