Choosing a used quad
Start with what you'll use it for. A utility quad like the Can-Am Outlander is built for work and all-round riding, with racks for carrying gear and the option of four-wheel drive. Sport quads are lighter and built for speed on tracks and trails. For most farm and lifestyle-block buyers, a utility quad is the practical choice.
What to check on a used quad
- Four-wheel drive. If it has 4WD, check that it engages properly and the diff lock works if it has one.
- CV boots and axles. Split boots let in dirt and water, which wears out the joints.
- Wheel bearings and steering. Check for play in the wheels and the steering.
- Brakes and tyres. Both take a beating on a working quad.
- How it's been used. Hours, servicing and whether it's done heavy towing or spray work all make a difference.
Our workshop checks every quad before it goes on sale, and we're happy to tell you what we found.
