How Much Is My Dirt Bike Worth?

Dirt bikes hold their value better than most vehicles, but the price depends on a handful of things you can check yourself in a few minutes.

What sets the value

  • Make, model and year: popular models and recent years hold value best
  • Hours and use: a bike with low hours and a good service record is worth more. See how many hours is too many
  • Condition: frame, plastics, forks, tyres, chain, sprockets and brakes
  • Maintenance: receipts and records are worth money
  • Modifications: good upgrades can help, but some mods reduce the pool of buyers
  • Race history: a hard-raced bike usually sells for less than a gently used one

How to check the market

Search for the same make, model and year on listing sites and on our inventory, and compare asking prices. Remember that asking prices are not always what bikes sell for. Look for bikes that have actually sold, if you can.

Get it looking its best

  • Wash it properly and take clear photos
  • Fix small things like bent levers and worn grips
  • Fit fresh tyres or a new chain if they are worn
  • Gather the service history and paperwork

Sell privately or to a dealer?

Selling privately may get a higher price, but it takes time, calls and haggling, and carries the risk of time wasters. Selling to a dealer is quick and simple, but the price allows for the dealer's costs and margin. See how to sell your dirt bike fast and how to get the best trade-in value.

We buy dirt bikes and quads. Send us the details and photos on our Sell Us Your Bike page for an estimate, and you can put the value towards your next bike.

Do not forget the gear

If you are upgrading, you may need new protective kit too. See GearShed and whether kits are worth it.

When is the best time to sell?

Demand tends to lift in spring, as riders get ready for summer, and after Christmas. Selling just before a new model year can also affect the price. If you can wait for the right moment, you may do better, but a bike that sits unused loses value too, so do not hold on for too long.
